HOLIDAY STARKILLERS: AN EXHIBITION OF WORKS INSPIRED BY GEORGE LUCAS’ EPIC SPACE OPERA
December 11- January 9
(Washington, DC) Anacostia Arts Center hosts a group exhibit curated by Andrew Wodzianski. Holiday Starkillers celebrates the cultural phenomena of George Lucas’ space saga. Featuring works by Andrew Wodzianski, Scott G. Brooks, Greg Ferrand, Chris Bishop, Jared Davis, and Steve Strawn. Opening reception is on December 11 from 6-8 pm.
Lucas’ inspiration was drawn as far from the Epic of Gilgamesh to Kurosawa’s The Hidden Fortress. He also depended on the imagination of conceptual designers Colin Cantwell, Alex Tavoularis, and Ralph McQuarrie. He has inundated our culture with licensed toys, games, accessories, and collectibles for the past thirty-eight winter holidays.
Holiday Starkillers pays reverence to market penetration, thematic parallels, and early conceptualizations with an exhibit of futuristic grandeur! Holiday Starkillers runs December 11 – January 9 at Anacostia Arts Center (1231 Good Hope Road, SE, Washington DC 20020, 202-631-6291) with an opening on December 11 from 6 – 9 pm.
Gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday from 10 am – 7 pm. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
